Artist's Comments

Every year MAC Cosmetics puts out Halloween looks you can do using their products. The masks are always so cute, but I never have time to really do anything with them. This year, I decided to make them in to brushes for everyone to enjoy. Keep in mind the artwork its self is from MAC, I only transformed them to brushes.

There are 10 brushes in total, all at a resolution of 259x286 pixels. The .zip file includes the brushes, the image files, and the preview image.

Use freely, and I would love to see what everyone comes up with so shoot me a link! (a link back to this deviation or my profile would be kick-ass too:))

I downloaded the file and will see if I can figure out what to do with the brushes!

As I predicted, I am baffled.

Seems that Photoshop doesn't recognize .jpg files as brushes...I poked around the help file and couldn't find a way to convert or import a .jpg file as a brush...

Before I go googling for answers, perhaps you can tell me how to use these!

These are formatted for Paintshop Pro, version 9+... I have to run a few errands today and go to my mom's house for dinner a bit later but I'll see if I can figure out how to convert them for Photoshop for you ;) I still haven't really gotten the jist of the program..

I somehow managed to create a Photoshop brush from one of the images. I think I did it by opening one of the images, selecting the brush tool, adding a brush, and selecting "Define Brush." That seems to do the trick.

Heheh...lucky that you had already uploaded them here!
Yeah, I googled for the answer and found it. Not sure why they call it a "brush," though, 'cause you can't paint with it! More kinda sorta like a rubber stamp.

I'm hoping to do my first cartoon strip soon. I have the storyline, just need to work up the courage to try it. That courage would come easier, of course, if I had any drawing talent! I think my approach is going to be to take a bunch of photos and go from there. Hm...wonder if Photoshop has a "photo-to-cartoon" filter!

oooh, that sounds very cool, can't wait to see it. not sure about the filter in photoshop, so if it happens not to have one i know photobucket has some simple editing tools, and one of the features is "cartoon" under the effects tab. just upload your photo, click on edit, then click on "see much more". from there its under effects. one click and it looks like this: [link] i think it would be interesting and different to take digital photos and cartoonize them for the strip, that's a great idea!
